Self-Judgement and Parenting

I caught a fantastic one from Nina Golob last week in between posts, where her daughter made her a poster with many heartfelt descriptions (look her up) of how she sees her mom. She touched me and I also shared a picture of a simple letter from my 8-year-old daughter, which had tremendous power and a lesson for me as well.

That's why I decided to share this picture here as well and some of my thoughts on it.

When I received it, I burst into tears in an instant. I was so moved by her gesture and it flattered her to see how she had done something profound with this act.

Dear moms and dads, I know that we are not perfect, and on the path of education, there are many moments that we are not proud of. Lack of patience, lack of presence, lack of listening, too quick reactions and anything else could be found. A lot of this, at least for me, remains like a heavy stone on my heart and hurts me, why I didn't do it differently, why I couldn't do it better, why this and why that. Of course, the judgment that I am not good.

But a new day comes, a new opportunity, sometimes I act more awake, consciously, use my set of skills and techniques, or just stay calm and wait and act as a soft response. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Parenting for me is definitely the most challenging lesson I have in this life. But this letter was such a solid proof to me that most of the time I take strength and confidence in my abilities from myself with my beliefs that do not support me. That I am too hard on myself.

This letter has much more power for me than some life wisdom essay.

With it, my daughter made it clear to me how she perceives me and what she feels about me. So, regardless of all the "mistakes" I make, she loves me and accepts me for who I am. Wow, what a Light shines from her.

I admit, this message rolled away many of these rocks of my own judgments and created a space for me to take a deep breath. I know there will be many more trials to come, but this will be something I can return to to rekindle my inner strength and confidence in myself and my decisions to support her in her journey of Life.

My little girl, but a great teacher.

How do you feel in this role? Do you ever feel heartbroken and think you were too hard on your children or yourself? How do you help yourself let go of this pain?

Sound is a big support for me, as it has been throughout my life. I feel it is really very healing and goes deep. If you have accumulated too many burdens, emotions that weigh you down and you would like to take a breath and find this calm within yourself, I invite you from the bottom of my heart to come to me for one individual sound bath, which will serve your situation and support you for your highest good.
